The end of the year operations of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command paid off as six (6) suspected vandals of public infrastructure were arrested at different locations across the FCT.
The arrest was made by the Command’s operatives on routine patrol during the yuletide celebration to ensure security of lives and protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
In a statement signed by the FCT Commandant spokesman, Monica Ojobi, said one of the vandals, Salihu Mohammed, Male, 27 years old, from Jama Local Government Area of Kaduna State was arrested at life Camp, Kado, vandalizing armoured Cables .
Mohammed Gadahfi, Male, 28 years old, from Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State was arrested at Yar ‘Adua express way, along the Airport road ,vandalizing Solar Panel Poles and FCMB Bill Board poles.
Musa Ibrahim, 18 years Old from Dala Local Government Area of Kano state was also arrested at Yar ‘Adua express way along the Airport road in possession of a vandalized El Rufai bus body parts.
Other suspects are Suleiman Yusuf, 21 years old from Zamfara State, Ibrahim Mudassir, 27 years old from Zamfara State and Kabiru Sani, 22 years old also from Zamfara State .
The trio were apprehended with the following exhibits;
1. A street light pole cut into two (2) pieces
2. Three (3) street light bulbs (Neon, AKT 100w and Totek1 p65
3. One (1) halogen bulb security light
Two (2) street light pole base
4. Twenty- four (24) perimeter fencing iron hooks
5. One (1) cut steel bar
6. Nine (9 ) shovels
7. Three (3) pliers
8. Two (2) spanners
9. Two screw drivers
10. National Identity Card belonging to Sani KABIRU and two (2) passports photographs
11. Three (3) Street light empty boxes
12. One (1) earpiece
13. One (1) lighter
14. Three (3) finger rings and Thirteen thousand, two hundred naira (N13,200) cash.
Parading the suspects at the Command headquarters, Abuja, the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, PhD, expressed satisfaction at the dedication and commitment of his personnel in consistently actualizing the mandate of the Corps.
He reiterated the Command’s resolve to flushing out vandals and miscreants at all cost and warned vandals to desist from their wickedness against the FCT infrastructure or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.
“My officers and men have displayed gallantry and commitment to the enforcement of law and order in the FCT and its environs during the festive period.
“It is unfortunate that these nefarious elements are sabotaging the social amenities provided for the people of the FCT by the government.
“But we assure you that we shall not rest on our oars but continue to maintain our resolve to protect critical infrastructure while at the same time arresting these criminals”, Odumosu said.
The Commandant informed that the arrested vandals are currently undergoing investigation and would be consequently prosecuted according to the provisions of the law.
He urged residents of the FCT to assist the Corps with relevant information to help on the fight against Vandalism and other crimes in the FCT.
