Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Dele Momodu has revealed the longstanding feud between Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Momodu said the intense political rivalry is a battle for control over Rivers State’s treasury.
The conflict, which has escalated since Governor Fubara’s assumption of office in May 2023, has affected the state House of Assembly, local government chairmen, and various state commissioners loyal to both factions.
Despite President Bola Tinubu’s mediation efforts and the subsequent signing of a peace pact, the fight has persisted.
Speaking on the tussle, Momodu said: “They are fighting in Rivers because of politics only. They also need the money in Rivers.
“Tinubu has Wike in Rivers. They want him also to get hold of the state to not only give them votes, but a structure of money, structure of having direct access to the treasury Rivers State plays an important role in election in Nigeria.”
