Veteran actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has spoken out about the alarming rate of premature deaths in the Nollywood industry, blaming the tragic trend on the reckless and negligent behavior of some actors.
In a recent Lagos interview, Mama G shared her concerns about actors’ tendency to prioritize their careers over their health and wellness.
“When you’re deeply engrossed in something you love, you tend to neglect your health,” Mama G remarked. “Some are so careless that instead of seeking proper medical attention when sick, they opt for over-the-counter remedies. It’s a dangerous trend.”
Mama G also shared her emotional experience at the funeral of the late comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, where the reality of his passing hit her hard. “When I approached his body and called his name, expecting a response that never came, I broke down. It dawned on me that he was truly gone,” she recalled tearfully.
Mama G encouraged her fellow actors to make their health a top priority, stressing the value of regular health check-ups and warning against harmful habits that can compromise overall well-being.
In sharing her personal story, Mama G recalled a profound spiritual experience in 2016 that marked a turning point in her life, inspiring her to dedicate herself to spreading the word of God and embracing her role as an evangelist.
“I received a divine call to serve Him,” she explained. “Initially hesitant, I eventually committed myself to a period of separation and spiritual reflection, which profoundly changed my life. Since then, I’ve been called to share my testimony and minister to others.”
Mama G’s thoughtful perspectives on health and spirituality demonstrate her dedication to promoting awareness and wellness not only within the entertainment industry but also extending to a broader audience.
