The incident has drawn significant attention, particularly as Coote recently officiated Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday. In response to the controversy, well-known football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed Coote’s suspension on Monday. Romano shared a statement from the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), stating, “David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete.”

While the investigation remains in its early stages, the possibility that the video could be a deepfake or manipulated with artificial intelligence technology has not been ruled out. The PGMOL is expected to continue its inquiry into the authenticity of the footage, as fans and officials await further clarification on the matter.
