In a BBC Pidgin interview, Okpebholo claimed he would repair interstate roads using N10 million and then claim N20 million from the federal government if elected. This remark has ignited widespread criticism, with many Nigerians expressing their disapproval on social media.

Netizens have accused Okpebholo of endorsing corrupt practices, with some labeling Nigeria a “lawless country” where such behavior is expected. Critics argue that his statement implies contract inflation and theft, with one user commenting, “This is why we can’t move forward as a nation.” Others have questioned the ethical implications of such a statement from a potential leader, saying, “If a governorship candidate can say this so casually, imagine what happens behind closed doors.”
