A Nigerian man, Abimbola David, aged 43, is facing life imprisonment in the United Kingdom after allegedly attempting to groom a 14-year-old girl he met on a dating app.
David, who recently arrived in London on a student visa with his wife and two children, is accused of sending explicit messages to the minor despite discovering her age.
According to reports, David, who initially believed the girl was 18 due to the app’s minimum age requirement, learned she was 14 but continued to interact with her. In a transcript provided, he defended his actions, saying, “I asked her [for inappropriate images] to confirm if she was a child.” He also claimed he was only “having fun” and insisted that he had no intention of meeting her, stating, “If I wanted to abuse a child, I would have sent my home address.”

The case has drawn outrage online, where many are calling for justice. Some social media users have condemned his explanation as “reducing his behavior to ‘konji’,” a term for sexual frustration, while others argue his actions display clear intent.
David is now awaiting trial, facing charges that could lead to life imprisonment if convicted under the UK’s strict laws on child exploitation and online grooming.
