Nollywood star, Mercy Johnson Okojie, is facing a wave of backlash after publicly endorsing Senator Monday Okpebholo in the lead-up to the Edo State gubernatorial election.
The actress, whose husband is also a politician in Edo State, was recently spotted at a political rally in Ward 6, Irruekpen, Esan West LGA, voicing her support for Okpebholo, the APC governorship candidate.
In a video making rounds on social media, Mercy is seen urging women in the community to discuss the importance of voting for Okpebholo with their families, particularly their husbands and children.

However, her appearance at the rally and vocal support for the APC candidate have not been well received online. The clip, which went viral on the platform X (formerly Twitter), has drawn intense criticism from netizens. Many are harshly dragging the actress for her involvement in politics and her choice of candidate, leading to a heated online debate.
