Lawyers from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) staged a protest at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) office in Ibadan following the alleged brutalization of one of their members by EFCC officers in the city.
In a strong show of solidarity, a large number of NBA members gathered at the EFCC premises to express their outrage over the incident and demand justice for their colleague. The protest, which took place within the EFCC compound, saw the lawyers voicing their discontent and insisting on accountability from the anti-graft agency.
The incident that sparked the protest involved an alleged physical assault on a member of the NBA by EFCC officers. The lawyers, visibly upset, carried placards and chanted slogans, calling for an end to what they described as the unjust treatment of legal practitioners by law enforcement agencies.
Speaking during the protest, some of the NBA members emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all citizens, including lawyers, who play a crucial role in the administration of justice. They demanded that the EFCC take immediate action to address the issue and ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
The protestors also called on the leadership of the EFCC to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring those responsible to book. They stressed that the legal community would not tolerate any form of abuse or harassment against its members.
As the protest continued, the lawyers reiterated their commitment to seeking justice for their colleague and urged the EFCC to respect the rights of legal professionals in the course of its operations.
