The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed dissatisfaction over the public altercation between police officers and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State.
In response, Egbetokun has called for an investigation into the incident to determine its root cause.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP described the incident as an unprofessional display of discord between the two security agencies. He emphasized that such actions undermine the cooperative spirit essential for maintaining public order.

Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, disclosed that the IGP has tasked the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Osogbo, to lead a discreet investigation to uncover the details behind the clash.
Egbetokun’s remarks come just days after a strategic meeting held on October 15, 2024, with senior police officers, where he underscored the importance of unity among security agencies. He reminded officers of the need for “esprit de corps”—a spirit of camaraderie, teamwork, and mutual respect that must exist both within the police force and with other security agencies.
Reflecting on the meeting, Adejobi quoted the IGP: “It is essential for the successful execution of our duties that we honour and respect all colleagues and members of other services within the confines of the law.”

The IGP urged calm in the aftermath of the incident, stressing the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership to fostering collaboration with sister agencies. He assured the public that the police would work diligently to maintain peace and security across the nation.
