Prominent Nigerian activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has spoken out in defense of Dr. Becky Enenche, the wife of Pastor Paul Enenche of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, following backlash over her recent statement on tithing.
Dr. Becky Enenche, while addressing her congregation, stated that Christians who refuse to pay tithes would “go back to square one.” Her remarks ignited widespread criticism on social media, with notable figures such as Reno Omokri condemning her position.
However, Adeyanju has countered the criticisms, declaring that Dr. Becky’s statement reflects the truth. Sharing his thoughts on social media, Adeyanju noted that many of those attacking Dr. Becky do not pay tithes themselves. He further urged critics to stop interfering with those who believe in and practice the doctrine of tithing.
In a video shared on his Facebook page, Adeyanju reaffirmed his belief in the principles of tithing and suggested that critics focus on their personal choices rather than dictating how others should manage their faith and finances.

Though Adeyanju did not explicitly name Reno Omokri in his defense, many netizens speculated that his comments were aimed at Omokri’s earlier criticism of Dr. Becky.
The debate over tithing remains a contentious issue among Nigerians, with opinions deeply divided over its spiritual and practical implications.
