Professor Adebowale Ojo, the Dean of the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education’s Faculty of Specialized and Professional Education in Oyo State, has passed away.
He died on Tuesday, after a successful surgery at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, the state capital.
According to a statement provided to Online on Wednesday by the institution’s registrar, Olubunmi Siju’ Asunmo, the vice chancellor, professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan, received the death of professor Ojo on Tuesday.
Asunmo said, “The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olaniyan, had received with great shock the news of the demise of Professor Ojo, which sadly occurred, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, after a successful surgery at the UCH.
“Ojo, who was on sabbatical at the university, was until his death the Dean, Faculty of Specialised and Professional Education. He was a staff of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
“He was a Professor of Education Evaluation and two-term Provost of the Tai Solarin College of Education, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. He was the Chairman of the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, Oyo State.
“Ojo, who obtained undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the field of Education from the University of Ilorin; the University of Lagos and the University of Ibadan, respectively, served as a member of the Governing Council, Tai Solarin University of Education. He was also a member of the Governing Board of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria.”
According to the statement, he joined the service of the Ogun State College of Education, Ijagun on August 26, 1980, and rose to the position of Chief Lecturer.
Upon the transition of the College to a University, he was appointed a Senior Lecturer and was pronounced a Professor on October 1, 2019.
He was graciously offered a sabbatical leave by the management of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo and resumed as the pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Specialised and Professional Education on September 26, 2023, a position he held until he pass away.
The vice chancellor, therefore, prayed for the deceased’s soul to rest and fortitude to bear the immense loss experienced by the family.
