A 95-year-old Kenyan man married his 90-year-old longtime partner on Sunday, marking their union six decades after they first met.
Ibrahim Mbogo exchanged vows with Tabitha Wangui, his beloved, in a church wedding held in Mukurweini, a town located about three hours northeast of Nairobi.
Mbogo shared that they first met and fell in love in 1960 and decided together to have a church wedding to complement their traditional Kikuyu marriage.
“We thought it would be wonderful to have a white wedding. While our Kikuyu custom legally recognizes our marriage, as Christians, we wanted to honor it with a church ceremony,” Mbogo said.
For their special day, Mbogo donned a smart grey suit with a silver tie, while Wangui wore a white hat, a cream brocade jacket, and a white outfit.
When asked about the secret to their long-lasting relationship, Wangui advised women to respect their husbands.
“Respect your husbands. If you do that, you will have a long and happy marriage like ours. If you make a mistake, apologize and seek forgiveness,” she said.
