The Presidency has disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is preparing for a possible cabinet reshuffle, which could take place on or before October 1.
This revelation came during a press conference at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, addressed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu has expressed his intention to reorganize his cabinet to ensure optimal performance but has not set a definitive timeline. “The President has expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet, and he will do it. I don’t know whether he wants to do it before October 1, but he will surely do it. That is what I will say, but he has not given us any timeline,” Onanuga stated.
In addition to the cabinet reshuffle, the President also urged his ministers to actively engage the media and communicate the achievements of their respective ministries. During the last Federal Executive Council meeting, Tinubu reportedly charged the ministers to overcome their media hesitance and publicize the efforts and progress of his administration.
“Some of them have been media shy, television shy, radio shy, and the President wants them to overcome all that,” Onanuga remarked. “The feeling out there is that the government is not doing enough, but in reality, the government has been doing a lot. It is now up to the ministers to go out there and blow their own trumpet. They should talk about what their ministries have been doing.”
The call for better communication from the ministries comes amid concerns that many Nigerians are unaware of the government’s initiatives and actions. Tinubu’s administration believes that improved transparency and engagement with the public will help to bridge this gap and change public perception.
