Award-winning investigative journalist, Adejuwon Soyinka, has successfully retrieved his passport from the Department of State Services (DSS) office in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Soyinka was accompanied by human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, during the retrieval process on Friday.
The discovererg.com reports that Soyinka’s ordeal began last week Sunday when he was arrested at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport and held for approximately eight hours at both the DSS Airport Command and the agency’s Ikoyi office. Despite his release, his passport was withheld, sparking concerns about his freedom and ability to work.
Initially, the DSS claimed that Soyinka’s name was placed on their watchlist at the request of an unnamed government agency, without preferring any allegations against him. However, in a new development, DSS operatives blamed Soyinka’s arrest and detention on possible mistaken identity when he retrieved his passport.
Effiong expressed his skepticism about the DSS’s claim, stating, “The secret police’s decision to blame the whole incident on possible mistaken identity did not come to me as a surprise.
