Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was laid to rest on Friday at his family home in Umuanuka, Otolo Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, in a funeral ceremony marked by deep sorrow and heartfelt tributes.
Dignitaries, political associates, friends, and family members gathered to honor the philanthropist and politician, whose passing in July 2024 shocked many. Ubah had died in the United Kingdom while attending his daughter’s graduation ceremony.
The ceremony commenced with the arrival of Ubah’s remains at his country home before proceeding to St. Peter Clever Parish in Umuanuka for a funeral Mass. As his body reached his residence, scores of dependents and admirers broke into uncontrollable wailing, highlighting the impact of his generosity and support.
Ubah, known for his philanthropy, was a lifeline for many in Anambra State. His businesses provided employment to numerous individuals, and his kindness extended to supporting indigent members of society.
The burial attracted notable figures, including Governor Chukwuma Soludo, former Governor Peter Obi, former Senator Uche Ekwunife, and several senators and dignitaries from across Nigeria.
Delivering the homily, Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, Rt. Rev. Peter Cardinal Okpaleke, reflected on Ubah’s impactful life and urged the living to emulate his legacy of service to humanity.
In his tribute, Governor Soludo recalled their last meeting in May, expressing disbelief at Ubah’s untimely demise.
Former Senator Uche Ekwunife described Ubah as a visionary leader whose kindness and dedication to youth development were unparalleled. She praised his commitment to a better Nigeria and a stronger South-East, emphasizing that his legacy would inspire future generations.
The burial was conducted under tight security, with personnel from the military, police, and vigilante groups ensuring order.
