Sa’adu Zungur University has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited NNPCL and Shell Petroleum Development Company SPDC for the construction of new modern ICT facility at Gadau main campus of the university.
Speaking during the official inauguration of the new ICT centre, yesterday,Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Fatimah Tahir, said the centre will serve as a hub for innovation and a platform for the students to develop their technological skills.
The Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited NNPCL, and Shell Petroleum Development Company SPDC for the partnership specifically on this project, which she said is geared towards enhancing economic development in the university.
According to her, ” As we all know, the world is evolving, and we must keep up with the changes to remain relevant.”
“The rapid advancement of technology, specifically in the field of information and communication, has transformed the way we live and work,” she added.
Professor Fatimah Tahir emphasized that it is the university’s responsibility to prepare for the ever-changing job market by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills.
She however expressed gratitude to the executive governor of Bauchi Senator Bala Mohammed for his continuous support to the university, saying that “his vision and dedication to the development of education in the state has been instrumental in our progress.”
In his remarks, Chief Upstream Investment Officer (CUIO), NNPC Limited Dr. Bala Wunti stressed that Corporate Social Responsibility has always been a hallmark of the NNPC-SPDC Joint Venture (JV).
Bala Wunti said, “For several decades, the Joint Venture has consistently invested in impactful Corporate Social Responsibility initiative across the length and breath of Nigeria.”
He added that, “Today, the Joint Venture is in Bauchi to celebrate the completion of a state-of-the-art ICT centre at the Bauchi State University, Gadau. This is indeed no mean feat and a milestone worthy of celebration.”
Also speaking during the occasion, Managing Director, Shell Petroleum Development Company SPDC & Country Shell Companies in Nigeria, Dr. Osagie Okumbor, said “To us, this is another very important social investment project completed by Petroleum Development Company Joint Venture in North-East Nigeria.”
He expressed happiness that the collaboration of Joint Venture partners and Sa’adu Zungur University has resulted in the success of the project, which is a social investment project that demonstrate the commitment to improving access to quality education for every Nigerian.
The state-of-the-art ICT centre which located at the main campus of Sa’adu Zungur University is fully equipped with the latest technology to ensure effective teaching and learning especially in the area of information and communication. END
