The Senator representing Abia Central Senator District at the Senate, Senator Austin Akobundu says the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party has commenced a process of rebuilding and rebranding the party for the sole aim of returning it to its original purpose of a solid platform.
Senator Akobundu who was fielding questions from newsmen shortly after a Grand Civic Reception held in Honour of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Senator (Dr.) Adolphus Wabara organized by Abia State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party in collaboration with the People’s Democratic Institute (PDI) Abuja, held at Trade More Event Centre, Umuahia, while acknowledging that few things went wrong in the party in the past, Senator Akobundu expressed optimism that PDP will come out strongly after the rebuilding and rebranding process even as he maintained that PDP is a dominant party in Abia State.
“We are very conscious of the fact that a few things went wrong. We lost power, it’s not unusual, it’s not new, no party stays in power forever. So we have had our own share of setback in political governance and we understand clearly that Abia is predominantly PDP” Senator Akobundu asserted.
Senator Akobundu who is the leader of the party in Abia eulogized the celebrant, Senator Wabara whom he said rose to the pinnacle of his legislative outing as the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs appreciated the leadership of the PDP, the PDP governors, team members and party supporters for making the occasion a memorable one.
The event which was chaired by the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde was graced by the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, that of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, members of the National Working Committee of the PDP, the Director General of the People’s Democratic Institute (PDI), Dr. Edward Adie, among other notable personalities from Abia, South East and Nigeria at large in attendance.
