The newly elected Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Pharm Samaila Burga has said that the major task of the leadership is to hold on to power beyond 2027 and produce a successor for Governor Bala Mohammed.
Burga, a diehard supporter of Mohammed, was a commissioner and later became the Governor’s Principal Private Secretary (PPS) before his election as the chairman of the Party. He said that no successive administration and governor, since 1999 has ever handed over to a preferred and anointed governorship candidate.
He said this yesterday when he received his friends from Dass Old Boys Association (DASSOBA) in a congratulatory visit at the Party’s Headquarters, saying he needs prayers to achieve the enormous tasks ahead.
“Remember me in your prayers because the task before us is enormous. We are expected to do something that has never been done in Bauchi State. (Former Governor) Ahmadu Muazu came in 1999, did his best but could not install another governor, not to talk of himself clinching the Bauchi South Senatorial seat.
“Similar thing happened to (former governor) Malam Isa Yuguda. For Mohammad Abdullahi Abubakar, he could not even return for a second term, so for us now to change the narratives, we need serious prayers, collaboration and all hands must be on deck otherwise, we may fail again,” he said.
Earlier, the President of DASSOBA, Dr. Samuel Emmanuel Okolo, expressed confidence in Burga, saying that the politician revolutionised the state agriculture sector while heading the ministry of agriculture and the Governor’s Principal Private Secretary which spurred him into the helm of the ruling PDP.
“We are primarily throwing our support for him and at the same time reminding not to throw the ladder he used while climbing up, because it will be useful later. We are confident in him, we believe in his leadership qualities and knowing that he will deliver,” he said. END
