Prof. Yusuf Suberu has urged youths to shun all manner of electoral violence, political thuggery and criminalities before, during and after the gubernatorial election in Ondo.
Suberu, who is Founder of Yusuf John-Suberu Foundation, gave the advice in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, ahead of the Ondo governorship Election slated for Saturday, Nov. 16.
He said that there was the need to re-orientate the youths to refrain from electoral violence and all other anti-social vices.
He also said that engaging the youths as thugs undermines the essence of democracy, advising the youths to shun thuggery due to the obvious danger.
He appealed to the youths to avoid activities that would also incite violence but should rather channel their energies into profitable ventures.
“As youths, I admonish you to shun violence and other forms of criminal acts.
“Political class has nothing to offer you than harm you with guns and drugs to commit crimes. Just vote wisely and vote leaders of your choice, “he said.
Suberu called on the government to provide employment for the teeming youths.
This, he said would better their lives and not make them idle and helped them not to indulge in crimes and criminality.
He also admonished politicians to play by the rules and not make the forthcoming polls a do-or-die affair.
He reminded them that the peace and unity of the country was more important than the ambition of any candidates or party.
