Samu Omorodion, the Atletico Madrid frontman, is not keen on joining Chelsea, dealing a blow to the Blues’ hopes of signing him this summer.
Chelsea’s transfer efforts have hit a snag, with the club facing challenges in securing deals for their targets. While they managed to sign Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, they have been unsuccessful in their pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, who is now poised to join Bayern Munich instead.
Moreover, Michael Olise is not the only player Chelsea are set to miss out on this summer. In addition to their struggles in the wide areas, the Blues have also been attempting to bolster their attacking options, which is a pressing need given that Nicolas Jackson was their sole recognized striker by the end of last season.
Chelsea were believed to be extremely keen on Atletico Madrid’s Omorodion, but their interest in him now seems to have cooled.
According to journalist Simon Phillips, the club are no longer pursuing the 20-year-old, while he was not eager to move to Stamford Bridge anyway.
On his Substack, Phillips said, “Interest has cooled in Samu Omorodion after Chelsea believed his fee was too high, and Atletico Madrid were not prepared to negotiate down. The player also didn’t want to come to Chelsea or leave his club.”
Another journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, claimed that Atletico valued Omorodion at €80m (£67.7m).
According to The Athletic, Chelsea have engaged in discussions with the representatives of Jonathan David, a striker for Lille, indicating a potential interest in acquiring the player.
At 24, Jonathan David has honed his skills and demonstrated a consistent scoring ability, netting 26 goals in 47 appearances for Lille last season. In contrast, Omorodion scored eight goals in 35 games during his loan spell at Alaves, highlighting the significant difference in their experience and productivity.
