The Kogi State Government has prohibited all forms of processions in Koton-Karfe and surrounding communities.
This ban came as a precautionary measure to prevent potential disturbances and maintain peace and order in the area.
According to a statement issued by Commissioner Kingsley Femi Fanwo on Tuesday in Lokoja, the ban on processions in Koton-Karfe and surrounding areas is effective immediately.
He explained that the proactive ban was aimed at curbing plans by some elements in the area to disturb the peace of the ancient town.
Fanwo reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo administration to promoting harmony and peaceful coexistence among the people of Koton-Karfe in Kogi Local Government Area of the state.
Fanwo also stated that the governor has committed to being accessible and receptive to the people’s concerns, inviting them to share their thoughts and issues, and promoting dialogue as a means of resolving conflicts peacefully.
“We urge all concerned to strictly abide by the ban as violators will be treated as enemies of peace and the State.
“The decision of the State Government is aimed at protecting the rights of the Koton-Karfe people and indeed, all Kogites, to peace and security.
“We urge law enforcement agents to enforce the ban in accordance with the laws of the land.
“Koton-Karfe people should also be committed to peace and harmony as the Government is prepared to protect them from violence”, the Commissioner said.
