The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State arrested five individuals suspected of trading adulterated petroleum products in the state.
According to the corps, the suspects are Orofin Olorunjuwon, Enigbewo Sunday, Ayeyiwa Ilumaro, Owoyemi Ete and Okorisa Noah.
According to a statement released by Mr. Aidamenbor Daniel, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State NSCDC command, the suspects were apprehended during a joint operation conducted by the NSCDC, Tantita Security Services (a private security outfit), and the Nigerian Army.
The suspects were arrested in Igbokoda, the headquarters of the Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
The statement partly read, “Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in a joint operation with Tantita Security Services and Nigeria Army has apprehended five suspects.
“The suspects were arrested on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Igbokoda waterways of Ondo State with two large wooden boats filled with about 250,000 litres of adulterated petroleum products, three outboard boat engines and two pumping machines.
“The joint task force set the illegally acquired petroleum product ablaze on the high sea while the suspects and other exhibit are in custody for prosecution.”
The Ondo State NSCDC command has vowed to continue conducting joint operations and routine patrols of the waterways to eradicate economic sabotage in the state. The arrested suspects will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, serving as a warning to other potential criminals.
