The Chairman of National Population Commission (NPC), Isa Kwarra, has stated that the Commission is ready to conduct the National Population and Housing Census pending approval from President Bola Tinubu for a designated date.
Kwarra made these remarks on Monday during a media briefing in Abuja, held in anticipation of World Population Day 2024, observed annually on July 11.
This year’s theme, “Embracing the Power of Inclusive Data Towards a Resilient and Equitable Future for All,” underscores the importance of comprehensive data in planning and development.
Kwarra emphasized that conducting a census every 10 years is recommended by the United Nations. He expressed confidence in the Commission’s readiness to execute the census effectively once the President confirms the date.
“We are prepared to recruit additional personnel to ensure a thorough and credible census that meets universal acceptance,” Kwarra affirmed. He noted that aiming for November aligns with earlier plans, offering a feasible timeframe to complete the 2020 round of census activities, possibly extending up to April 2025.
