The Anambra Branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has ordered its members to suspend clinical services in all public and private hospitals, effective Thursday night.
This decision was reached after the kidnapping of Dr. Stephen Ezeh, a member of the association, who has been held captive since August 15.
Despite issuing an ultimatum and appealing to the state government, Dr. Ezeh remains in captivity, prompting the NMA to take drastic action. The association’s leadership, Dr. Princeston Okam and Dr. Ifeanyi Obiaeli, announced the directive after an Emergency General Meeting.
The NMA demands the immediate and unconditional release of Dr. Ezeh, emphasizing that his health is at risk. The association will monitor compliance with the directive and penalize defaulting hospitals and members.
While acknowledging the potential hardship this may cause, the NMA urges the Anambra Government to expedite Dr. Ezeh’s release, ensuring the restoration of normal healthcare services.
The association commends Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Health Commissioner Dr. Afam Obidike for their efforts to improve healthcare and security in the state. It also praises doctors for their commitment to providing quality healthcare to the people of Anambra.
