Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) has urged the Federal Government to take immediate action to address the alarming rise in killings, kidnapping, and banditry in the country.
NIREC in a statement signed by it Secretary, Cornelius Omonokhua, has expressed deep concern over the exponential increase in insecurity, describing it as “beyond alarming”.
The council, led by CAN President Daniel Okoh and Sultan of Sokoto Sa’ad Abubakar, who doubles as the President-General of, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), cited recent incidents, including the killing of 13 farmers in Niger State, the abduction of 150 persons in Sokoto State, and the murder of the District Head of Gatawa.
NIREC called on the government and security agencies to intensify their efforts to eradicate these menaces, ensuring citizens can go about their daily lives without fear or apprehension.
The council commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the safe release of those still in captivity.
NIREC’s appeal comes as the country grapples with escalating violence, highlighting the need for urgent action to address the root causes of these heinous acts and ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.
