A man identified as Doubara Esamasuode has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force for operating as a medical doctor without a license in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Esamasuode ran his illicit practice under the guise of St. Maximilian Medical Centre, where he allegedly performed fake medical procedures and prescribed harmful treatments to unsuspecting patients.
The suspect was paraded before the media on Thursday, August 29, 2024, after his arrest on August 25, 2024, by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Surveillance and Intelligence unit. A search of the premises revealed a range of medical supplies, including injection syringes, drugs, hospital equipment, and fake medical reports.
Esamasuode has confessed to operating as a fake medical doctor, running an illegal medical facility, forgery, and impersonation. He claimed that he started the business in 2019 after an accident prevented him from completing his education at the University of Abuja.
Two victims have come forward, sharing their harrowing experiences with the fake doctor. One victim recounted how she was referred to Esamasuode by a relative and paid N30,000 for treatments that promised to help her conceive. However, she later discovered that the treatments were fake and that she was not pregnant.
Another victim detailed how she nearly lost her life after following Esamasuode’s instructions and taking prescribed drugs that caused her to bleed profusely.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing timely information that could assist in apprehending criminal elements. Esamasuode is expected to be charged to court soon.
