As the World celebrates the 2024 Breastfeeding Week, A Non – Governmental Organisation (NGO) Alive & Thrive FHI360 has urged all stakeholders to work together to make Bauchi State a breastfeeding-friendly haven.
Making the call during the occasion marking the week, the Bauchi State Coordinator, Alive & Thrive FHI360, Mr. Asimobi Chidiebere enjoined everyone to join hands together to create a society that values and enables breastfeeding.
According to him, “As we observe the week, let everyone support breastfeeding mothers in their families, workplaces, and communities”.
While highlighting the importance of breastfeeding for mothers, babies, and our community, he Encourage hospitals and healthcare facilities to adopt baby-friendly practices.
He emphasised that “Breast milk is a precious gift that provides optimal nutrition, boosts immunity, and fosters a strong bond between mother and child.
“In Nigeria, where we face challenges like malnutrition and infant mortality, breastfeeding is a game-changer.
Speaking on the theme for this year’s Breastfeeding Week: “Closing the Gap, Breastfeeding Support for All”, he stressed the need for “everyone to work together to create a society that values and enables breastfeeding.Together, we can give our children the best possible start in life.
Asimobi Chidiebere who said the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 2021) rates Bauchi state at 26.4% in exclusive breastfeeding practice, expressed optimism that in subsequent surveys the state would surpass the national target.
He then thanked the Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya (Dr) Aisha Bala Mohammed for her motherly support in the state. END
