The newly appointed acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has convened a meeting with heads of directorates as part of effortsto chart a new course for the Service.
Speakingat the meeting, Monday in Abuja, the Acting CGC emphasized the importance of teamwork, transparency, and innovation in tackling the multifaceted challenges faced by the Service.
He pledged to build on existing reforms while introducing fresh strategies aimed at improving inmate rehabilitation, addressing overcrowding, and enhancing the welfare of correctional officers.
Nwakuche said: “The goal is to transform the Service into a model of excellence that prioritizes security, reformation, and the reintegration of offenders, which can only be achieved through collaboration, accountability, and the collective dedication of all stakeholders.”
The meeting provided a platform for directorate heads to share insights, challenges and present updates on ongoing projects.
Responding, directorate heads expressed their support for the acting CGC’s vision, highlighting their readiness to align their efforts with his leadership priorities.
The Acting CGC also called on all officers to remain committed to their duties and assured them of his unwavering support in fostering a secure and humane correctional system.
“Today’s meeting sets the stage for significant strides in the Service’s mission to ensure public safety and effective offender management.”
