The Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC) has assured customers in Gombe State of improved services, following a Customer Complaints Resolution Meeting held in the state.
Regina Osago, Assistant General Manager of Consumer Affairs at NERC, addressed common complaints such as metering issues and overbilling, assuring that meters can be obtained within 10 days of requests by electricity consumers.
She explained that the meeting aimed to educate consumers on their rights, the rights of Distribution Companies (DISCOS), investment regulations, and the operation of the sector.
“It also provided a platform for customers to report their complaints and receive solutions.”, she said.
Also speaking, the Chief Technical Officer of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), which distributes power to the state, Hamisu Wakili Jigawa, highlighted measures to safeguard transmission and distribution facilities, which are often vandalised.
He urged customers to avoid energy theft, report vandals, and pay bills promptly.
He revealed that 34 per cent of customers are fully metered now in the country with efforts underway by the federal government in collaboration with distribution companies to bridge the 66 per cent gap.
According to him, usage of prepaid meters ensure fair billing and energy accountability, benefiting both customers and DISCOS.
