The National Examinations Council (NECO) announced on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, that it has completed the payment of allowances to all 72,138 examiners who served as ad-hoc staff during the 2024 School-based Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The confirmation comes amid recent social media claims suggesting NECO had withheld payments.
In a statement signed by Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, NECO clarified that payments to examiners began on October 4, 2024. The Council opted for bank-based payments to streamline the process and facilitate easier reconciliation. As of November 13, all payments have been finalized according to NECO’s payment plan.
During the process, NECO reported issues with examiners who submitted incorrect bank details, which temporarily delayed their payments. These issues were resolved, and payments have now been processed across all 24 banks involved.
NECO addressed rumors circulating on social media, emphasizing that the claims of withheld payments were “incorrect and false.” The Council encouraged any examiner with questions about payments to contact NECO directly for clarification rather than turning to social media.
“NECO values the dedication and contributions of our esteemed examiners and ad-hoc staff to the smooth conduct of our examinations,” the statement read. “We assure them that their remuneration is a priority.”
