Multichoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has refuted claims that it has lowered its subscription rates in Nigeria.
BusinessDay reports that Multichoice cut decoder prices, but subscription fees remain unchanged.
“We only reduced our decoder prices and not subscription prices.
“DStv Zapper was slashed from N65,000 to N22,900 while the Zapper and the dishkit were slashed from N100,000 to N57,900.
“For GOtv, the Pizza Box was slashed from N56,000 to N19,900 and all of these took effect from the 1st of June 2024”, the source said.
Recall, MultiChoice Nigeria is currently embroiled in a legal battle, contesting a ruling by the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) that ordered the company to provide a month of free subscription services and pay a fine of N150 million.
This news follows the company’s recent disclosure that its Nigerian subscriber base declined by 18% during the first quarter of 2024.
MultiChoice has implemented four subscription fee increases since March 2022, with the most recent hike occurring in April 2024, when prices were raised by 17%.
This latest increase marks the fourth time the company has raised its subscription fees in just over two years.
