Your courageous decision to remove fuel subsidies and float the Naira showcases your commitment to dismantling the economic cabals that have denied Nigerians the benefits of their natural resources for decades. However, your efforts will be in vain if you fail to extend the courage to tackling the corruption and inefficiencies within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The NNPCL as we all know is notorious for corruption, both domestically and internationally, and its current structure and leadership hinder Nigeria’s progress. Under its successive management, the country’s refineries have become obsolete, and it has consistently frustrated the operation of local refineries while failing to rehabilitate its own refineries despite significant investments.
It’s deceitful to claim that fuel from Dangote’s local refinery will be sold at the same or higher prices as imported fuel. As your supporter, I’m growing tired of defending the hardships being inflicted on Nigerians by the NNPCL, as it has become indefensible.
With the introduction of the “buy and sell in Naira” initiative for local refineries, Nigerians should not be subjected to buying fuel at the price of imported products.
You may recall that the NNPCL has repeatedly failed to meet its promised deadlines for commencing production at the Port Harcourt refineries. Many Nigerians believe this is deliberate. Furthermore, despite Dangote’s readiness to meet daily consumption demands, the NNPCL insists it will still be importing certain fuel, indicating a desire to maintain the status quo and protect the interests of the cabals.
The truth is that all the remarkable achievements recorded by your administration within your 16 months in office are being overshadowed by the NNPCL’s pricing of fuel beyond the reach of citizens and the resultant high cost of living.
Your Excellency, I urge you to dissolve and restructure the NNPCL to free Nigerians from its tyranny and ease the current hardships ravaging the country. Doing so will also dispel the notion being promoted on social media by your opponents that your family’s involvement in oil businesses is the root of the fuel supply problems in Nigeria.
