Communities in Tafawa Balewa Local government area of Bauchi State have been charged to ensure community policing with a view to reducing the rate of crimes in the area.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Local Council, Alhaji Sama’ila Wakiki gave the charge on Tuesday at the 2024 Lere Annual Festival popularly known as Hawan Dashira.
The Chairman who commended members of various communities in the area for taken a bull by the honk to tackle kidnapping and other crimes in their locality urged them not to relent in that direction.
While promising his Council support to Vigilante groups to effectively carry out their activity, Alhaji Sama’ila Wakiki advised them to ensure rule of law and not to take the laws in to their hands.
Also speaking, a traditional title holder, Dan Saran Bauchi, Alhaji Jibril Hussaini Jibo applauded the efforts of stakeholders in the area for maintaining their culture and traditions, and called for sustenance.
The Village Head of Lere, Alhaji, Jamilu Aliyu Bawa enjoined people of the area to always support government policies and programmes to enjoy more dividends of democracy.
Highlights of the event were Traditional homage to the Village Head of Lere by title holders, horse riding as well as display of cultural talent by various groups. END
