Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) has confirmed that local government elections will be held on September 21 and has released the corresponding timetable of activities.
In a statement from KWSIEC Chairman, Muhammed Okanla, the electoral process will commence with a meeting involving the leadership of all registered political parties in the state on Friday.
Following this, party primaries will be held from Monday, June 24 to June 30.
Key Dates and Activities:
– *Nomination Forms*: Political parties are to obtain and return forms KWSIEC 01 and KWSIEC 02 for chairmanship and councilorship positions between July 1 and July 5.
– *Verification of Credentials*: This will take place from July 8 to July 19.
– *Display of Candidates*: Names of nominated candidates will be displayed on the KWSIEC notice board from July 22 to July 26.
– *Training of Ad-hoc Staff*: Scheduled for July 27 to July 31 across all three senatorial districts.
– *Withdrawal of Candidates*: The deadline for candidate withdrawal is August 5.
– *Publication of Nominated Candidates*: The final list will be published on August 6.
– *Political Campaigns*: Campaigns will run from August 19 until midnight of September 19.
– *Election Day*: Voting for chairmanship and councilorship positions will be on September 21.
– *Certificate of Return*: Issued on September 23.
