The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has called on the Governor of Rivers state Similaye Fubara to call his Chief of Staff, Hon. Edison Ehie to order, saying his actions are capable of bringing his administration into disrepute amidst the current political unrest in the state.
National Women Leader of IYC, Florence Jaja in a statement issued Thursday described Ehie recent actions as divisive and unfashionable.
She said: “With due respect, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Rivers state, Hon. Edison Ehie needs to be cautioned against premonition before things get out of hand.
“His recent actions are termed to be divisive, unfashionable and seen to be tribal mawkishness. These have evaporated beyond compromise and have necessitated this outburst.”
Jaja noted that they are proud of Fubara, saying his developmental agenda is celebrated by all and sundry, adding that they are determined to ensure that he doesn’t fail.
She said she stood tall as the National Woman Leader of IYC when the enemies of democracy attempted to impeach the governor in October 2023 where she mobilized all their structures, Women and youths to fight for democracy.
She further recalled that she ensured National President of IYC, Dr. Theophilus Alaye came down to Port Harcourt, mobilized the Youths and threw support for the rule of Law, adding that they also sponsored Live Media Broadcasts to let the world know their stands.
Jaja noted: “While we applaud the Role Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie played in ensuring that stability returned to the Government of Rivers state, we are currently constrained to shout out when we feel he is deviating from the track of people’s oriented governance.
“Amidst various complaints from individuals, groups, and supporters of the Government of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Edison has resulted in divisive tendencies, ethnic mawkishness, where Favoritism and intolerable injustice now reign in the Rivers State Government House.
“Edison has personally turned the Government into a one man business, where people cannot write to the Governor and get favorable responses, and the majority of our supporters are grudgingly supporting but rather complain in the background. So many groups who had earlier mobilized to support the government are seriously considering retreating upon their encounter with the Chief of Staff.
“My intervention is coming as a kind appeal to His Excellency to advise the Chief of Staff against actions that may amount to losing the overwhelming support of the people. His actions may be unintentional, but the increasing pace of complaints from the majority has necessitated my action.
“His recent treatment meted on the national leadership of IYC is condemnable and highly criticized.”
