Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that the party will not be deterred by its internal crisis in watching the activities of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, had recently proscribed the Tinubu administration’s stand about the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway Project, describing it as wasteful and a “highway to fraud.”
Atiku said this while responding to a statement by Minister of Works, David Umahi that the 700km highway would tentatively cost N15.6 trillion.
However, in the wake of some internal strife the PDP has been grappling with particularly concerning the party’s leadership, some members of the APC had called on the opposition to focus on its own issues rather than the government under Tinubu.
Reacting to the development during a chat with ARISE TV, Ologunagba said that focusing solely on the party’s internal issues would be a disservice to the nation.
He continued that the PDP as an obligation as a significant opposition to address national issue that concerns Nigerians, such as the state of the economy and security, which affect the daily lives of Nigerians.
Additionally, he emphasized that the party’s criticism of Tinubu administration was a reflection of the parts dedication to the interest of people rather than just sake of opposition.
“PDP cannot operate in isolation to the environment in which we are as a country. So it would be out of place if PDP doesn’t talk about the general insecurity in the nation and the economy that is in shambles, he said.
“And so if APC can look around and say PDP should concentrate on itself and not bother about the economy, it means what we have described it to be hah now been confirmed: a party that doesn’t have the interest of the people at heart.”
