The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) confiscated cartons of aphrodisiac products and sex enhancement drugs valued at N12 million in Sokoto.
According to Mr. Garba Adamu, the NAFDAC Coordinator in Sokoto, the agency’s patrol team successfully confiscated the illegal products during a routine market surveillance operation across Sokoto and its surrounding areas, as reported to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday.
Adamu elaborated that the seized products were not only unregistered, but also posed significant health risks due to the harmful ingredients used in their manufacture. Additionally, the packaging featured explicit pornographic images.
He appealed to the public to desist from buying such products from unlicensed premises and only patronise registered and safe products from licensed outlets.
”We also call on the general public to always report hawkers and dealers of such products to NAFDAC, as well as report any adverse reactions they may get from taking such products or any other regulated products.
“Some marketers are in the habit of dumping expired or about-to-expire products in markets in Sokoto and environs, while some are taken to border markets and rural areas for consumption,” he said.
Adamu sternly warned traders against dispensing substandard, fake, unapproved, and expired products to the public, emphasizing that NAFDAC would persistently conduct rigorous enforcement activities to ensure compliance with regulations and safeguard public health and safety at all times.
