How soldiers snatched rescued Kogi varsity students from police station – Police

Operatives of the Nigerian soldiers have reportedly stormed the Oro-Ago police station in Kwara State to forcefully takeaway some Kogi students rescued recently from the bandits’ den.

According to the report, shunning the rules of engagement and process of proper handing over, the soldiers overpowered police operatives on duty to make away with the distressed victims with no explanation offered.

In a media statement on the unfortunate incident, the Kwara Police spokesperson, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun described the soldiers’ action as “disrespectful and unacceptable”.

Toun stated that; “The Kogi police commissioner appreciates the IGP’s swift intervention and assures the public that efforts will continue to ensure the safety and security of citizens.

“The police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The incident is under investigation, and necessary actions will be taken to address the unprofessional conduct of the soldiers involved.”

This is as the Command spokesperson also disclosed that the Police Air wing had monitored the forest where the criminals stationed for several days rendering the abductors incapacitated.

The statement further read thus; “The sustained combined efforts of the Police, the office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Military, and Local Vigilantes, led to the successful rescue of eight (8) students, five (5) females and three (3) males.

“The students were rescued and taken to the Divisional Police Headquarters Oro-Ago in Kwara State in preparation for their onward movement to receive medical attention at the State capital Ilorin. However on arrival at the station, the students appeared weak and in dirty clothings. Police operatives provided presentable clothes and breakfast.

“While making preparations for their onward movement to Ilorin, soldiers on convoy patrol with three operational vehicles stormed Oro Ago police station, over powered the police operatives and forcefully took custody of the rescued students without proper handing over.

“This act is disrespectful to the force; totally unacceptable. The behavior of the soldiers is likened to act(s) unbecoming of an officer. And necessary actions will be taken to report their conduct to the higher authority.

“Meanwhile, operation is ongoing on land and air to smoke out the remnants of the deadly criminals who may still be hibernating in Kwara forest.”
