Three relatives of Ahmed Ajobe, a former editor of Daily Trust, have been abducted by gunmen in Awo, Ankpa Local Government Area, Kogi State.
Among the victims is Ajobe’s younger sister, Halimtu-Sadiya Tahir.
Reports indicate the abduction occurred on Thursday, November 21, 2024, as the victims returned from a local market, preparing for the seven-day prayers of Ajobe’s mother, who passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness.
Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, confirmed the incident, stating that the Divisional Police Officer and tactical teams have been mobilized to rescue the victims. He assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safe release of the hostages.
According to a family source, the abductors have demanded a ransom of N50 million. The source, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that negotiations are ongoing, but no ransom has been paid, and the victims remain in captivity.
The abduction has raised concerns about increasing insecurity in the region, particularly in Kogi State. Efforts by security forces are expected to intensify as the victims’ family and the local community await their safe return.
