Brazilian and Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. has been crowned the 2024 FIFA Best Men’s Player, topping the voting with 48 points.
He edged out Manchester City’s midfield maestro Rodri, who garnered 43 points, and his Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham, who finished with 37 points.
The award was presented during a ceremony held in Qatar, where Real Madrid is preparing to face Pachuca in the Intercontinental Cup. Vinícius Jr.’s triumph reflects his stellar performances over the past season and serves as a personal redemption after missing out on the Ballon d’Or.
Unlike the Ballon d’Or, the FIFA Best awards are determined by four equally weighted jury groups: national team coaches, national team captains, a selected journalist from each region, and fans, making the win a collective acknowledgment of Vinícius’ impact on the global stage.
Joining Vinícius on stage was Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, who won the award for Best Men’s Coach, further cementing the club’s dominance this season.
In the women’s category, Aitana Bonmatí of FC Barcelona and Spain was honored as the Best Women’s Player after a phenomenal year of achievements. Chelsea’s Emma Hayes took home the award for Best Women’s Coach, while Argentina’s Emiliano Martínez (Aston Villa) and USA’s Alyssa Naeher (Chicago Red Stars) won the Best Men’s and Women’s Goalkeeper awards, respectively.
