Workers at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan under the auspices of Joint Action Committee have embarked on down scaling of working hours over the cutting of electricity supply to the hospital by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.
The workers according to our investigations have resolved into
working from 8.00am to 4.00pm on daily basis until IBEDC restored power supply into the hospital
It was learnt that with the scaling of the working hours, there will be no call duties, no shift duties as all the workers will be closing for work at 4pm daily for now.
According to the Chairman of UCH Joint Action Committee Comrade Oludayo Olabampe, scaling was as a result othe workers took the decision due to a power outage in the hospital, adding that with the development, no one would be available to attend to patients in the evening at UCH
“Up till now, light has not been restored. So, we have scaled down our activities. We are to work between 8am and 4. pm every day”, he said.
Comrade Olabampe added, “We have said that if the light is not restored as of yesterday, we will scale down our activities and we have done that since yesterday. That is the latest. We are now in the third week”.
Contacted, the UCH Public Relations Officer Obafunmilayo Adetuyibi said there was nothing like scaling of working hours in the hospital, saying, ” the hospital is not scaling down its working hours.
” Let me inform you that UCH is running 24 hours service, the hospital is running the normal morning, afternoon and night shifts. Our Doctors are attending to patients 24hrs.”, she said.
The PRO added, ” UCH Management is not aware of such directive . It is the workers Joint Action Committee that is behind such. The Management is not in support of it”
Adetuyibi stressed that the UCH Management has directed all the Heads of Department (HODs) at the hospital to ensure that the hospital’s normal 24 hours service continued unabated.
