Business activities in Lagos state gas resumed to higher capacity on Friday as the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria protest, which began on August 1, 2024, to draw the attention of the government to the plight being faced by the masses, entered second day nationwide.
Unlike Thursday when businesses operated on an ebb and flow, major markets, eateries and shops revived in their sales as early as 8AM.
Our Correspondent observed that, though many commercial banks remained shut for the fear of being a target of somewhat attacks, many filling stations were, however, dispensing fuel to motorists.
From Ikorodu to Oshodi, Maryland to Yaba, and other areas in the state, residents engaged in series of business transactions without exercising any fear that the protest could go haywire.
The venue of the protest, Gani Fawehinmi Freedom park in Ojota, woke up to witness presence of protesters in the morning amidst security agencies whom had taken a standby as early as 8AM.
Tension almost heat up when security agents advised the protesters to move into the park in a bid to allow motorists access the BRT lane. It was, however, doused and the protesters continued singing and displaying play cards in front of the park.
Speaking on why they refused to move inside the park, one of the protesters, Comrade Nwosu explained that though the park was shut for use on Monday, but “we refused to move inside today when we noticed that some thugs had gained entrance into the park already. They even came with some dogs to attack us.
” I want to use this medium to inform Nigerians that should anything happens to us here, the FG should be held responsible because it seems they sent thugs here to attack us,” she added
While vehicular movement was still light in few roads in the state, nonetheless traffic was hectic around Ojota to Maryland.
At Ikeja under bridge and Computer Village, where some protesters had gathered before moving to Ojota on Monday, security agents were seeing in their numbers on Tuesday with no protesters in sight.
