The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has denounced the practice of repackaging, rebranding, and reselling government palliatives meant for vulnerable individuals.
Mr. Olukoyede emphasized that this practice undermines the government’s efforts to alleviate suffering and urged the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to share intelligence with the EFCC to enhance its operations.
During a visit by FCCPC CEO Olatunji Bello, Mr. Olukoyede noted that collaboration between the two agencies would help deter the diversion of palliatives.
The EFCC Chairman stressed that sanctions are necessary to prevent such offenses, saying, “The only thing that deters people is sanctions. We are committed to strengthening our collaboration to ensure people feel the impact of your work.”
Mr. Bello expressed his agency’s commitment to protecting consumer interests in Nigeria and sought greater collaboration with the EFCC to improve the delivery of its mandate.
