A Kano High Court has granted a restraining order, temporarily blocking the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from apprehending Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and six other individuals.
Justice Yusuf Ubale Muhammad, presiding over the case, issued a court order that specifically prohibits the EFCC, its agents, and associates from taking any actions that could infringe on the applicants’ fundamental rights, including arrest, harassment, detention, intimidation, or any other forms of molestation, until the court has heard and ruled on the pending motion.
After reviewing the ex parte motion filed on June 5, 2024, the judge granted the interim order and directed that the order, along with the motion on notice and all supporting documents, be promptly served on the respondent (EFCC) before the next court date.
The case has been postponed until June 24, 2024, when a hearing will take place regarding the motion on notice.
This comes amid an ongoing probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into Senator Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), concerning alleged misappropriation of campaign funds amounting to N2.5 billion.
The applicants in the suit include the NNPP, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, Dipo Olayanku, Ahmed Balewa, Chief Clement Anele, Lady Folshade Aliu, Eng. Buba Galadima, and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
