French broadcaster, Canal+, has named their African best Team of the Season, but some big names are missing.
African Footballer of The Year, Victor Osimhen, and Bundesliga champion, Victor Boniface, are missing.
New African stars emerged in 2023/24, while established pros like Ademola Lookman continued to prove their worth.
The biggest winners in the 2023/24 season were Bayer Leverkusen stars Boniface, Edmond Tapsoba, Odilon Kossounou, Amine Adli, and Nathan Tella. They won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal at the German club.
Lookman bagged a hat-trick in the Europa League final for Atalanta, handing them a historic trophy. Canal+ made some obvious and controversial choices in the team.
They named Ronwen Williams, Tapsoba, Kossounou, Chancel Mbemba; Achraf Hakimi, Pape Matar Sarr, Mohammed Kudus, Wilfried Singo, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Serhou Guirassy, and Ademola Lookman.
Williams captained South Africa to a third-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The South African also won the DStv Premiership with Mamelodi Sundowns.
He is the only player based in Africa on the team. Kudus and Sarr had decent campaigns in the Premier League. Hakimi and Singo also impressed in Ligue 1.
Aubameyang was the Europa League player of the season, while Guirassy scored 28 Bundesliga goals to help Stuttgart finish second ahead of Bayern Munich.
