The All Progressive Congress (APC) Concerned Residents stakeholders of Bwari Area Council, have decried exclusion from major on-going projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and seeks inclusion by way of political appointments of residents in the FCT administration.
Mr Mohammed Mubarak, the Coordinator of the group, said this at a news conference on Friday in Abuja.
Mubarak said that the non-inclusion of residents of the area council by the FCT administration was responsible for the exclusion in ongoing projects.
According to him, the non-inclusion of residents has resulted in ineffective service delivery and unresponsive governance.
“We have gathered here today to address a pressing concern that affects the very fabric of our community.
“The non-inclusion of residents of Bwari Area Council in political appointments in the Federal Capital Territory has become a recurring issue that demands attention and action.
“The federal capital territory administration like other states, is responsible for delivering essential services to its residents across the six area councils.
“However, the consistent exclusion of residents from political appointments has led to a disconnect between the federal capital territory administration and the community it serves,” he said.
Mubarak said that the lack of representation of residents in the FCT administration had undermined the principles of democracy and inclusivity which must he addressed.
He said that residents needed to be involved in the FCT administration because they were best positioned to understand the needs and challenges of their community and to drive the necessary changes needed in the council.
The groups coordinator said that residents in thr council consisted of those with experience, qualifications and track records of performance across sectors at the federal level and in FCT, hence the need to include them by appointments.
“We have experienced individuals who can help achieve the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu at this grassroot level.
“We have the numerical strength to alsp drive success and make equitable distribution of dividends of democracy to reach the majority at the grassroots.
“This fact has been proven during the last general elections where residents won the House of representative and Senate of the FCT with a landmark victory.
“We therefore demand that the Minister ensures the inclusion of residents in all political appointments, for transparency, accountability and tmfor an inclusive FCT,” he said.
Mubarak commended the FCT Minister for the transformative ongoing projects in the capital and appealed for engagements with residents and stakeholders in its plans, policies, and programmes.
