George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), is presently chairing a private meeting with more than 40 ministers from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
The closed-door meeting, convened by SGF George Akume, is primarily focused on devising strategies to mitigate the impact of the impending nationwide demonstrations against economic hardship.
The meeting boasts an impressive lineup of ministers, featuring prominent names like Nyesom Wike (FCT), Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs), Zephaniah Jisalo (Special Duties), Tahir Mamman (Education), and Abubakar Bagudu (Budget and Planning). Additionally, Wale Edun (Finance), Mohammed Idris (Information), Bello Matawalle (Defence), David Umahi (Works), and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu are also in attendance, bringing their expertise and insights to the table.
The meeting comes on the heels of President Tinubu’s appeal earlier this week, urging Nigerians to rethink their participation in the forthcoming #EndBadGovernance protest, scheduled to commence on August 1. The protest, which has generated widespread buzz on social media, is expected to unfold simultaneously across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
