The Nigeria police has withdrawn the treason, terrorism allegation against the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero after inviting him to the Inspector General Police Response Team office in Abuja.
This was disclosed by Barr. Maxwell Opara who represented the lead Counsel Femi Falana SAN, who led a team of lawyers to the IRT office in Abuja
He said that when they got there that the allegations contained in the invitation letter to the NLC President was not what the police questioned him about, as they just asked him about a tenant in the Paschal Bafyau Labour House, where NLC Headquarters is situated.
You will recall that the letter by the Nigeria Police signed by ACP Adamu Mu’azu, noted ” This office is investigating a case of criminal conspiracy terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion and cybercrime in which you were mentioned”.
The NLC President, Joe Ajaero said he had nothing to hide and so he had to honour the invitation and thanked God that he is back to continue the struggle, he recalled similar arrests under the watch of then Head of State late Gen. Sani Abacha.
He thanked the workers who gathered at the NLC Headquarters, Abuja to show solidarity with him as he visited the police.
The General Secretary of NLC Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja Esq. noted that the president of NLC is currently a Student at one of the universities in the country and was writing his exams at the short notice of the invitation by the police and that was why he requested for a later date, which has honoured today.
