Kofar Kudu the Palace of Emir of Kano on Friday, has been surrounded by armed policemen and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS), blocking both entry and exit.
Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II is expected to escort the newly-appointed Wamban Kano, Munir Sanusi, to his district posting in Bichi.
Reports revealed that the armed policemen have also surrounded the Bichi palace.
While the Kano Emirates tussle is still in courts, the state has witnessed emergence of two emirs—Sanusi and the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero.
Recall that in July, there was a violent clash at the palace of the sacked Emir of Rano in Kano State.
This follows a visit by an emissary of the 16th Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II to the palace in the Rano Local Government Area.
Residents had reported that suspected armed thugs had occupied the palace days before the arrival of Emir Sanusi’s emissary.
The thugs reportedly clashed with some residents over the visit of the emissary.
Following the collapse of law and order, Rano Local Government Council chairman, Professor Dahiru Yakubu, and an envoy of Emir Sanusi hastily fled the town.
According to eyewitness Kabir Abdullahi Rano, the violence rapidly escalated, spreading to other areas of the town, resulting in damage to vehicles and property.
“It was curious to see armed thugs around the palace some three days ahead despite the presence of conventional guards. It created tension in the town because people didn’t understand the motive or their mission.
“Violence erupted on Tuesday after some youths in the town mobilised to stop the council chairman and the emir’s envoy from entering the palace. The thugs came out of the palace and chased the youths away.
“After a moment of calm, the youths regrouped, causing widespread violence in the town which forced the council chairman and his guest to flee out of Rano,” Rano said.
