An officer of Ebonyi state police command has been killed after gunmen attacked police checkpoint in the state.
The officers were attacked at Ishieke junction at the outskirts of Abakaliki town where their vehicle was razed.
Sources in the area claimed the gunmen killed one police officer and abducted another, but this could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
The police spokesman in Ebonyi, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the attack and said the gunmen also set the police van on the spot ablaze.
“It happened early on Thursday morning. I have been trying to get the details of what happened, but one officer was killed and a vehicle was burnt.
“More details will be made available soon,’’ he said.
